    ah fuck the gif explains it well. Anyway using geometry the surface area's are identical in both assemblies. the smaller green and red triangles do not share equal gradients on the hypotenuse. I can explain why if you want. thus the two shapes do not form a triangle at all (only three sides) as the small green and red triangles are two sides to the shape already. that and the fact the second assembly has a hole in it making it not a triangle. hahaha
    Ya but since the gradients are unequal they do not form a continuous line in the images but appear to for the naked eye. soooo two random shapes two ways to assemble the tiles is all it is.
