Please read this :D

Ok, so i have noticed that as soon as religeon is brought into an argument, people get all judgemental "athiests are terrible people". "Christians hate everyone unless they believe in god"...

Why is everyone so quick to judge one another based on a personal belief?

christians- your taught that jesus loves everyone and that you should try to do the same. By being hurtful to someone, that is doing the oppisite of that.

athiests- just because someone is a christian doesnt mean they hate you. Just because they want to believe in something you dont believe in doesnt mean they are stupid.

Why can't we al just treat each other with some respect?

I do believe in Jesus. I am catholic, but i'd rather just have my own belief without the religeon. My closest friends include mostly athiests and Muslims. in fact, one of the muslims is my best friend,,,and frankly the only person i trust. I dont hate them, nor do I hate anyone else. I have to main goals in life. One of those is a musical goal, but the other is to never hate anyone..and to treat everyone with respect, to be everybody's friend.

We are not all bad :D

There's moderate christians, and then there's hardline fundamentalists (not the only distinctions), just as there's moderate atheists and aggressive atheists.
Many fundamentalists find it impossible to practice their beliefs without proselytising others and trying to force it on other people. That's what gets even the moderate atheists incredibly irritated.
Likewise, the aggressive atheists, Dawkins included, find religion (particularly with the fundamentalists) so antagonistic to society that they effectvely become as bad as fundamentalists that try to force it on others.
And atheists, mostly, can tell the difference between moderates and fundies. The anglican church down the road from me that my mother attends is fine. They've let me decide my own beliefs for myself without judging me. They're good people. If there was a church or other religious community nearby that regularly went door to door, or publicly protested, then i would get irritated. It isn't that christians purposefully hurt others, it's when some try to force it on others, and when they cannot accept the beliefs of others - that's what gets atheists pissed off. Mostly, we're cool to coexist with moderate religious people - of any religion - who are cool with believing as they like - but can accept the beliefs of others. It's just unfortunate that there are those who can't accept others beliefs - religious or otherwise.

Oh i see. Yeah I dont really like it when others try to push their beliefs onto me either, even people of the same religion as me.
Thanks for being nice about you comment. I wasn't trying to step on anybody's toes

You're welcome. I only get aggressive when others get preachy :) I'm cool with everyone who isn't prone to religious diarrhoea, to use a rather crude metaphor.

Amen, sister! However, as Christians, we aren't called to "try" to love everyone, it is a direct commandment of Jesus Christ. We are created in the imago Dei. Therefore we shouldn't only strive to be like Jesus, but instead be a direct reflection of his love on the world. God, being all that is love, does not hate a single person. We may attempt to correct the path of those lost, but we shall not be a condemning force. I agree with you saying we should all just get along.

A question to atheist: What exactly is the point of trying to get people to drop their faith in God? I mean, Christians, Jews, Muslims, and other religious people try to convert because they fear for the souls of the lost. But if there truly is no god, what is the harm in believing there is one and worshiping as so?

Great explination in the top par. loved it :D
I think some want people to drop their faith because they see only the negative things its had like the crusades and holocaust not all the great things out of it

I am none of the above, I fail to believe in any aspect or the concept in believing in a religion. I believe when you die your conciousness just stops, no heaven or hell, your thoughts just stop. To me any form of religion is a way to control people and gain money, Proof, around the middle ages it was the law to be catholic and you had to give I think it was around 10% of your weeks earnings to the church. The point is to me religion is one of the roots for war and fighting. And don't discount that History is my proof. Im not atheist, atheists refuse to believe in god, i don't believe in the concept in believing in a religion.
    And don't rage please

Yeah that post kept being bumped up even though it was eight months old, some people can be offended by anything thats against their beliefs, yeah their are some extremists in any religions group both dont believe everyones like that because of the media showing some bad ones(westborrow baptists) or a few ones you met in your life. I know christians who tell people their going to hell because they see someone doing something wrong, and i know athiest who make fun of people who believe in God and say its all fake and imaginary, both saides are wrong and need to stop its childish and makes that persons belief look stupid because of one persons actions. Yesterday on that post all i did at first was say not to start a war with someone else like the title said and then had to explain atheism is a religion -_- just dont force your beliefs on someone else please people its wrong nomatter what you believe if you do it that way

As long as no one tries to force beliefs (that is believing in something or not) on me I don't have an issue with anyone.
