New beginning for Call of Duty ? Activision revealed next-gen visuals.

At the Game Developers Conference, Activision technical director Jorge Jimenez has revealed their photorealistic next-gen engine. The character panel for the next-gen engine were created in a year of work. Activision’s new engine step closer to photo-reality, with realistic hair, teeth, and eyebrows. The new engine will show the importance of character with greater emotional impact.

There have been some rumors lately saying the next Call of Duty will be on next-gen (PS4) only. Could this be a new beginning for Call of Duty series?

    I can absolutely guarantee you that the in-game graphics and even the cutscenes will NOT look as detailed as this.

    I don't see a reason to doubt it. This is an actual reveal from Activision, now a hoax, and if you've seen some of the graphics in Halo 4, you know they've been getting closer and closer to this level of realism. It's not all that far-fetched to think the next generation of consoles will be able to achieve graphics like this.

    I have good reason to believe this too. They do look like rendered 3D graphics. But, the PS4 is quite powerful. It's the equivalent in terms of Teraflops to the GTX 650/660, whose cost ranges from £150-250 depending on brand.

    That is a pretty high end GPU even in terms of PC gaming, so it does have good potential. However, the new GTX Titan is over 2x as powerful. Then again, I wouldn't see a console costing at LEAST £800 just for graphics selling well.

    The Titan is an absolute waste of money. A 690 is the same price and outperforms a Titan in almost everything. Two 680's is cheaper and outperforms a 690. A Titan is pretty much two 670's on a single chip and shouldn't cost much more than two 670's.

    It would mostly depend on how the faces move. If they have this kind of detail, they will still look incredibly goofy if they're moving in unnatural ways. Their idea behind having this many polygons is to, "accurately display emotions" which is kind of pointless.

    Link's facial expressions in The Wind Waker are amazing and convey a lot more than most detailed faces do in games. And all it is is a few textures and a sphere.

    Call of Duty updated graphics and called it a new beginning? Wow, didn't see that coming.

    Buying MW3 and Skyrim on PC
    MW3 comes on 2 DVDs
    Skyrim comes on One.

    Generally, Skyrim graphics are more detailed, more explorable and larger maps.

    You can't explain that.

    I remember buying Gears of War back in the day

    They asked to see my ID

    Turned out he wouldn't sell it to me because I wasn't 17 for 3 more months

    Drove all the way across town to get someone who was 17

    Drove all the way back

    Finally bought it

    Bought 40$ worth of gas on the way back

    Spent over $110 that night

    On xbox live.

    Friend keeps hassling me to play blops 2 with him.

    Don't want to because blops 2 bores me and I'd rather play Borderlands 2 instead.

    Friend won't get Borderlands 2 because all he plays are cod and halo and won't touch any shooter/multiplayer game that involves any story/questing/adventure/thought. Continues to bug me whining "all you ever play is mass effect and and borderlands and skyrim and <insert not blops/halo here> and suck a dick etc."

    Unfortunately, I can explain that: Closed mindedness.

    Yet somehow he's still my friend.

    A lot of comments about Call of Duty and New Graphics, or Call of Duty and it being a waste. The biggest part to stick out in our mind is the idea of Call of Duty being a PS4 Exclusive. From the mindset of a for-profit company, keeping the literal Madden of Console FPS games only on a Sony Playstation when a huge Microsoft Xbox playerbase already exists is the most remarkably stupid idea possible.
    A video game will never capture the actual feeling of taking a life, or seeing one extinguished. No matter how fancy the graphics may be. We're with Ertov on this one, that sort of technology is wasted on a first person shooter.

    Well, there are good first person shooters. I'm just tired of all the identical modern war games.

    We won't deny that, however we feel the best shooter game we have played was Spec Ops: The Line, at least as far as story goes. That game was Third-Person. We find all of the clones boring, especially the Call of Dutys. We're currently playing a game on the PC called Planetside 2. However after our server (Jaeger) was merged into another server (Waterson) we don't enjoy the game as much. Might just wind up going back to Minecraft at this rate.

    The single player is always good in Halo games, but the multiplayer is pretty much always the same.

    It pains me to think this technology will be used to make more Call of Duty games. Let's see it in a Mass Effect game, or Elder Scrolls.

    if there is a next COD wouldnt it be infinity wards turn meaning modern warfare 4 but where are they gonna go because makarov is dead hmmmmm

    There's an even bigger problem. 100 years from now, how are they going to know which game came out first? Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4? :O

    Infinity Ward didn't finish the last COD game they were making (MW3) it was finished off by Sledgehammer Games as Activision had a major restructuring of IW and sacked both senior employees Jason West and Vince Zampella.
    Following West and Zampella's firings, nearly half of the remaining Infinity Ward employees resigned. Subsequently 46 employees, among them lead designers and programmers who worked on Modern Warfare 2, abruptly left Infinity Ward.
    So basically there will never be a COD game like MW again.

    I've never been that fussed about realistic looking graphics. Most of my favourite games are pretty cartoony (Windwaker, borderlands, pokemon the characters/creatures look like they were drawn first rather than punched into a computer from the start.). I find games like this more ascetically appealing. I mentioned in one of my Zelda reviews good art makes a game pretty, not realistic graphics. (Though they aren't mutually exclusive.)

    That, and you can only make video game characters look as accurate as reality. How do you make things look better than reality? By going back to more colorful, artistic and (dare I say?) cartoon style graphics. It'll all come full circle.
