Chelsea vs Barcelona

chelsea vs barcelona pic

So i'm a Chelsea fan, and will be rooting for the boys in blue (obviously), but what's your views?

Here's some background on this match in the previous meetings between the sides:

They've played each other 10 times in the champions league, 13 times in total. Barca have won 5 times, Chelsea 4, and there have been 4 draws.

At Stamford Bridge Barcelona have only won 1, drawn 1, and lost 4 times.

When the sides have met in the knock out stages of the Champions League, Barca have gone through 3 times, Chelsea only once.

More people across the world will be rooting for Chelsea, being the underdogs, but not everyone. Ask any Chelsea fan if they like Barcelona and they'll say no. This fixture is one with serious rivalry across European football, especially since the second leg of the champions league semi final of 2009:

Blatant cheating by Barca, making me, and 99% of other Chelsea fans now hate them.

Anyway, who do you want to win, who do you think will win, what do you think the score will be tonight, and who do you think will go through to the final?

I'm rooting Chelsea, predicting a 2-1 with goals from Drogba, Mata and Iniesta, but i think Barcalona will go on to win the tie, and the Champions league :'(

I'm ganna edit this to do show the main events live, in case you can't see in on the tv and want to
The pre-match commentary is now live on ITV (english channel, other countries i don't know)

Barcelona: Valdes, Alves, Puyol, Mascherano, Adriano, Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta, Sanchez, Messi, Fabregas 4-3-3
The game has now kicked off :D

I'm a Man. United fan so I can't say I like either team to be honest haha. That being said I'd like to see Chelsea beat Barca because they've dominated the Champions League the last decade or so. But I don't see it happening. They're just too strong. I agree that they constantly cheat but I still think they are a ridiculously talented team.

i could have guessed you were Man U from your picture and name :P
and what do you think the score will be in?
And you think even in the good form Chelsea are in we still wont win the tie?
    Me either :/
    - Fail4424 April 18, 2012, 2:12 pm
lol I didn't even think about that. I think Chelsea will win 2-1 today but Barca will get 2 or 3 at the Nou Camp. Yeah even though Chelsea have really improved since AVB was sacked I still don't think they'll be strong enough to win over two legs. Especially if Torres starts :p
    - manufc92 April 18, 2012, 2:28 pm
well, Torres has got back in form now, not as good as at Liverpool, but he has got better
    - Fail4424 April 18, 2012, 2:32 pm
I'll give him credit he has improved but idk if he'll ever make it back to his Liverpool form. I think he'll need to be back to that form or better in order to score against Barca. Just my opinion though. But Chelsea have plenty of other attacking options so it shouldn't be a problem.
    - manufc92 April 18, 2012, 2:39 pm
and, since he's on the bench, i don't see him doing much :P
he'll probably come on though, between 50-80 mins i think
    - Fail4424 April 18, 2012, 2:46 pm
And here comes the Barca diving clinic. I know I'll look like a hypocrite since Ashley Young has been diving so much recently but at least United have one player and not our whole team diving haha.
    - manufc92 April 18, 2012, 3:00 pm
haha yer, i love the crowd chant they did earlier:
forgoten, but it was something like 'same old Barca, always cheating! XD'
    - Fail4424 April 18, 2012, 3:03 pm
What a game! Chelsea were a bit lucky in the end but the score is all that matters. They have a real chance going to the Nou Camp for the return leg. From a neutral perspective I can't wait!
    - manufc92 April 18, 2012, 4:40 pm
we played well, but as expected they out played us, and dominated
i don't know how they didn't score, hit the woodwork 2 or 3 times, and Busquets's miss at the end was dreadful
they did everything right, except finish :P
I'm still not sure we'll go through, at the Nou Camp anything can happen :/

I'm an Everton fan so none of this applies to me haha. But I'd like to see Barcelona win as I dislike Chelsea

what did we do to annoy you? :P
and wouldn't you want some silverware in England and not Spain, who win everything??
    - Fail4424 April 18, 2012, 2:27 pm
haha, i like watching Barcelona play, some of messis runs are just incredible. chelsea annoy me because they buy players for the sake of buying players, just to take them off the market so other teams cant have access. Plus they have a very good history of buying good players and turning them shit.

But you guys are 1-0 up at the moment anyway, so good luck
    - poopiteepoop April 18, 2012, 4:13 pm
lol, i don't think we buy them just so others can't :P
and i don't think we have a history of buying players and turning them shit, Torres did, and Shevshenko didn't do well with us, but i can't think of another payer in 10 years, so that's not a bad record :P
    but thanks anyway :D

    - Fail4424 April 18, 2012, 6:24 pm
in the EPL i support ManU

    so, why Madrid then?
    *cough 'glory hunter' cough*
    - Fail4424 April 18, 2012, 6:38 pm
    because they're a good team?

been watching them play since i was a kid. i was very young, didn't know anything about 3 points for wins or whatever. just liked seeing them play.
    - fuckyou1 April 18, 2012, 6:40 pm
    lol fair point
so what country are you from?
    - Fail4424 April 18, 2012, 7:03 pm
wouldn't like to say i'm from one country in particular. i've traveled a lot in my fairly young life and loved everywhere i ever visited. it'd be kinda unfair to the other countries.
    - fuckyou1 April 18, 2012, 7:05 pm
well, where are you living now? :P
    - Fail4424 April 18, 2012, 7:07 pm

Man U, worst team to support. Glory supporters... Yuck
    - poopiteepoop April 18, 2012, 7:55 pm
it seems nowadays people can't support a good team cuz they get called glory supporters *sigh*
    - fuckyou1 April 19, 2012, 2:17 pm
thats what glory supporting is... supporting a team only because they are good. and I wouldnt say 'nowadays', glory supporters have always been frowned upon within the football supporter community
    - poopiteepoop April 19, 2012, 3:37 pm
yes, that's why i support them. it has nothing to do with how i like their form of playing. i've been supporting them and Madrid as far back as i can remember. i don't give a shit about the trophies, it's not like i'm a player in those respective clubs. i just like being entertained when i watch them play.

i'm a Madrid fan so i was going for Chelsea. 2 reasons. 1 it'd be a waaaaay easier final for us and 2 i would't want for Madrid to go against those Barcelona cheaters again.

i actually do see Chelsea going through in the next fixture, maybe with a 1-1 draw.

I feel Barcelona is severely overrated and teams give them too much respect.

well, they do have Messi, arguably the best in the world, who do you think, Messi or Ronaldo?

Then, Iniesta, Xavi, Pique, Puyol, Alves all TOP class
the others are good, but these 5 are great, and Messi's God-like
    and i want a Chelsea-Munich final,
easier than Madrid, and i'm half German
also, sick of everything going to Madrid/Barca
    - Fail4424 April 18, 2012, 6:31 pm

Casillas, Ozil, Alonso, Higuain, Benzema etc.

you're still gonna be sick for quite some time buddy
    - fuckyou1 April 18, 2012, 6:35 pm
but, you are 2-1 down, and i think Munich have the ability to score away from home, with Robben and Ribery
i see Munich as a better version of Napoli, a great attack, but a not so good defence/midfield, but they do have Nueur
    - Fail4424 April 18, 2012, 6:37 pm
2-1 down with an away goal. we only need to score once, something i see happening.

wouldn't know too much about Napoli, serie a seriously bores me. it's just so slow.
    - fuckyou1 April 18, 2012, 6:42 pm
well, i've never seen a Serie A game either, i just know about their team
and we played them in the last 16, and if you watched the first leg at their place you would have seen their defence is shit, but their attack is AMAAING!!!
    Lavezzi, Cavani and Hamsik-truly unstoppable!!

To be honest, when chelsea won i freaked out. but keep in mind that this was still the first leg so i bet barca is going to probably step up their game a lot. Last year, Barca beat Man U 3-1 so anything can happen. i felt bad for messi though b/c he didnt get a good chance to show how good he really is. and lastly, iniesta really impressed me with his skill dribbling today.

    • April 18, 2012, 7:51 pm
you freaked out, in a good way or a bad way? who do you support?
and yer, i know Barca will be more prepared for the game next week, but their players will be tired from El Clasico, but we have to play Arsenal on the weekend, which won't be easy either :/
Messi didn't really do much today, except get tackled which lead to our goal :D
Iniesta did well today yer, most of the Barca players did, except Mascherano, but none of them really played to the quality i was expecting, which is good as we won :D

I have no clue what any of this is about. Go Lakers. :)

english football, so soccer to you :P
    but ok, WOOH!!! LAKERS!!!!
    - Fail4424 April 19, 2012, 11:17 am
lol I know :D The video confuzzled me though :x I don't get why that's penalties? lol
    - casper667 April 19, 2012, 6:40 pm
Well when fouls occur inside the box penalty kicks are given. The first 2 were fouls for push/tripping and grabbing the attackers jersey. The other reason penalty kicks can be given is for the defensive team handling the ball in the box which the other 2 that they showed were clearly handball. Hope that helps and just to respond to the lakers part Go Celtics :p
    - manufc92 April 19, 2012, 6:54 pm
lol, you don't follow football so i didn't expect you to understand it, but the Man U fan above me explained it well :D
    - Fail4424 April 19, 2012, 7:07 pm
ARGH! Is everyone on this site a Celtics fan? Well, as long as the Heat don't win I don't really care too much. :)

There is one team and one team only in this world The MIGHTY MIGHTY Scunthorpe United!!!!!!!!

yer, but they're a few years off playing in the Champions league semi finals, but when that day arrives, i'll be rooting for you ;)
but until that day, who did you want, Cheslsea or Barca? and who you want to win the second leg?

I think Chelsea have a 50:50 chance of going through to the final, especially after Barcalona lost to Madrid at home in El Classico, but anything could happen
if Chelsea score first, i think they'll go through, but if it's half time at 1-0 to Barclona then they'll go through
But i'm with Chelsea on this one

    • qwop
    • April 23, 2012, 1:36 pm
    What was that about 50:50?
And Barcelona were leading at half time, but we still won :D
    and thanks man
    3-2 TO CHELSEA!!!!!!
    - Fail4424 April 24, 2012, 5:33 pm
yer i know, but it was just my prediction
and i'm glad Chelsea won, i support them :P

That game was ridiculous!!! What an unbelievable game! Congrats to Chelsea but that was a miracle if I've ever seen one haha

    The game was amazing!!!
i was in the local pub watching it, the atmosphere was CRAZY!!!
Thanks, and i know it was a miricle, Messi missed a penalty, they hit the woodwork who knows how many times, but we won it :D

well played chelsea, ramirez's goal was amazing. and good on torres to finish it off. I still can't believe messis perfomance

    Thanks man
When Ramires scored the pub's atmosphere was better, and everyone cheered, but we all thought we were going out, still 45 mins to play with 10 men
    but then Torres <3

i would rather have chelsea win just to pt Barcalona in their place

well then, your dreams have come true!
    but now, Chelsea or Munich/Madrid?
    - Fail4424 April 24, 2012, 6:53 pm
hmm well i would say Munich because i a ManU fan and well Real Madrid is just another Yankees of soccer
    - Weichert506 April 24, 2012, 7:20 pm
well, i don't understand the comment about them being the Yankees of soccer,
but why another Man U fan here? I've yet to see another Chelsea boy so far :'(
If there's anyone out there reading this who is Blue, speak up now! :D
    - Fail4424 April 24, 2012, 7:26 pm
Well in baseball the Yankees buy all there talent and yeah win the world series every other year pretty much. ha i was pulled to ManU because my gym soccer coach is a chelsea freak ha
    - Weichert506 April 24, 2012, 7:38 pm
I'm blue, but it's for the Everton boys, and if your team don't beat that Red Shitty time in the FA Cup final I will not be happy sir
    - BCARS2701 April 24, 2012, 7:44 pm
well then, Barca and now City are the Yankees of football
but if it makes you hate Madrid, then bring the hate!
    - Fail4424 April 24, 2012, 7:49 pm
    don't worry, we'll take them
    Carrol vs Drogba
Suarez vs Mata (i know it's not the same position but who cares)
    Gerrard vs Lampard
    Carragher vs Terry
    and the list continues
and, we're in good form, 5-1 to spurs, then beating the champions of the world
we'll get em for ya ;)

and, i'll do it for you because you're the only 'blue' supporting team, not the right blue, but we'll get to that later :P
at least it's not Red (all these glory hunters *cough man u fans) and Green (JV34 supports Wolfsburg i think?)
    - Fail4424 April 24, 2012, 7:51 pm
    wooo evertooooon
    - poopiteepoop April 24, 2012, 7:54 pm
I hate that United supporters are always called glory hunters. I personally started supporting United in 2006 and thats mainly due to the lack of availability of football to watch here in the States (real football anyway, not handegg). I feel like the reason I began supporting Man United was because when I played FIFA world cup video games I would play as England and score lots of goals with Rooney. If I lived in the UK or anywhere in Europe really, I would support my local club but sadly we don't have a major team in North Carolina. If its any consolation I support West Ham as well because I got to see them live 2 years ago and gained loads of respect for the club and their supporters. Anyway sorry for the rant, like I said I hate that we're referred to as glory hunters all the time.
    - manufc92 April 24, 2012, 8:22 pm
lol don't worry about it man, i'm only having a bit of fun ;)
you can laugh at me when Chelsea lose in the champions league final and we'll be even :P
    - Fail4424 April 25, 2012, 10:07 am
I can agree with you on that haha. With the majority of your back line suspended I can't see a way Chelsea could actually win the final but I guess we'll have to wait and see :p
    - manufc92 April 25, 2012, 11:15 am
yer, we're missing Terry because he's a complete ideot, Ivanovic is good whose un-able, Ramires is playing well whose out, and Mireles whose ok

Also, Cahil and Luiz are both injured atm, and with Terry suspended i don't know whose ganna be CB :'(
    - Fail4424 April 25, 2012, 3:22 pm
Yeah thats going to be a real predicament for Di Mateo but hes had the golden touch so far. Did you see the Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich game? I'm really glad Bayern won! Finally no Spanish team in the Champions League final!
    - manufc92 April 25, 2012, 5:46 pm
    yer, i saw it
    great game
    you just can't beat German's at penalties (says a smug half-German) :P
but anyway, i prefered Munich to win, even at the Allianz arena they're not as good as Madrid, and are missing 2 or 3 players
and at least whoever wins it won't be Spain, either Germany or England :D
    WW3 comming up....

my view? as a person with intense distaste not at the game itself, but at the players, i hope a streaker comes onto the pitch and scores, i'd pay money to see that, not 22 blokes kicking a ball around a glorified muddy field and getting paid a cartload of cash a week. I want to see a man with a karl marx beard run on to the pitch completely naked, score a goal, and get nothing out of it except maybe a night in a police cell for a misused charge of article 44 of the terrorism act. That would be the hero of the game for me, I would pay good money for that. I would carry the bloke up on my shoulders personally out of the game and buy him a drink from a pub later. Hey, you asked.

well, as much as that would make me laugh, i'm ganna have to say i don't really aggree with you there :P
it would be funny to see a streaker come on and score, but i would also like to see the actual game :P
and yer, i did ask, so thanks for the opinion :P
